<p>Pagi itu, Adora bersemangat kerana akan menghadiri kelas puisi &#8211; subjek yang sangat digemarinya.</p>
<p>Namun, budak perempuan berusia 11 tahun itu sebenarnya bukanlah pelajar, sebaliknya seorang guru.</p>
<p>Dianggap sebagai pakar kesusasteraan cilik, bakat dimiliki Adora dianggap sangat hebat.</p>
<p>Dia mula mengajar kesusasteraan ketika baru berusia tujuh tahun dan pada masa sama, karya sulungnya, Flying Fingers, diterbitkan di seluruh dunia.</p>
<p>Buku itu mengandungi koleksi cerita pendek bersama rahsia menulis yang baik untuk sesiapa yang ingin mempelajari kaedah digunakannya.</p>
<p>Buku kedua Adora, Dancing Fingers adalah koleksi puisi bersama dengan kakaknya dan diterbitkan tahun lalu.</p>
<p>Ketika ini, Adora sibuk menyiapkan empat lagi karya baru.</p>
<p>Menurut Adora, genre kegemarannya adalah cerita fiksyen sejarah dan fantasi.</p>
<p>Justeru, minatnya terhadap tulisan J K Rowling (penulis cerita Harry Potter) dan Charles Dickens dapat difahami.</p>
<p>Cuma, kata Adora, kadang-kadang ayat digunakan kedua-dua penulis itu agak berbelit.</p>
<p>Proses penghasilan karya Adora juga menarik. Dia mampu menaip di antara 80 hingga 112 perkataan seminit, membaca dua hingga tiga buku sehari dan menulis kira-kira 330,000 perkataan setahun.</p>
<p>Baginya, dia melihat dirinya sebagai seorang ‘pendidik, penyair dan pencinta kemanusiaan’, tetapi bagi orang lain, Adora seorang budak berfikiran dewasa.</p>
<p>Dia tidak pernah menduduki ujian IQ kerana baginya, ia tidak perlu.</p>
<p>“Ia bukan satu-satunya cara terbaik untuk mengetahui kecerdasan seseorang dalam kesusasteraan,” katanya.</p>
<p>Adora mula boleh membaca ketika baru berusia tiga tahun. Ketika itu, katanya, dia menyangka semua budak seusianya mempunyai minat sama &#8211; membaca.</p>
<p>Sebaliknya, kata Adora, tidak semua orang gemar menghabiskan masa dengan membaca.</p>
<p>Justeru, kata ibunya, Jouce, Adora berusaha memanfaatkan kemampuannya untuk menanamkan kecintaan tabiat membaca di kalangan orang lain.</p>
<p>Sehingga kini, Adora menjadi pengajar tamu di lebih 300 kelas di seluruh dunia, termasuk China, Hong Kong, Vietnam dan United Kingdom.</p>
<p>Digelar Dora the Explorer, selalunya syarahan Adora dimulakan dengan menceritakan pengalaman bagaimana dia mula membaca dan menulis kepada kanak-kanak lain.</p>
<p>Di rumah mereka di Redmond, Washington, ruang bawah kediaman itu diubah suai menjadi studio televisyen untuk membolehkan Adora mengadakan sidang video harian.</p>
<p>Melalui kaedah itu, dia memberikan syarahan mengenai penulisan kepada sesiapa saja yang berminat, termasuk orang dewasa dan guru dengan kadar bayaran AS$300 bagi setiap sesi selama 50 minit.</p>
<p>Disebabkan bakatnya besar, Adora turut menjadi perhatian dunia korporat.</p>
<p>Untuk muncul dalam sesuatu syarahan kepada pendidik dan ahli perniagaan, Adora boleh memperoleh bayaran sehingga AS$10,000 bagi menjelaskan bagaimana teknologi memberi kesan kepada proses kreativiti seseorang.</p>
<p>Baru-baru ini, dia diupah Microsoft untuk menjelaskan kaedah penggunaan komputer dalam pendidikan.</p>
<p>Melihat bagaimana Adora berkongsi pengalamannya, amat sukar untuk sesiapa pun untuk tidak mengagumi kemampuan budak perempuan itu.</p>
<p>“Ketika kecil, saya mengharapkan galakan,” katanya pada satu ketika.</p>
<p>Adakah Adora terlupa bahawa dia masih budak?</p>
<p>Tidak.</p>
<p>Kata Adora, apabila dia merujuk kepada zaman kanak-kanaknya, ia adalah tempoh dia baru berusia di antara dua hingga sembilan tahun.</p>
<p>“Walaupun berasa semakin dewasa, saya sedar saya masih budak,” katanya.</p>
<p>Baru-baru ini, Adora mengambil ujian untuk mengetahui usia seseorang secara online.</p>
<p>Hasil ujian itu, katanya, dia dianggap berusia 50 atau 60 tahun.</p>

<p>Joyce dibesarkan di China ketika negara itu mengalami Revolusi Kebudayaan.</p>
<p>Disebabkan kerajaan ketika itu menghalang seseorang memiliki buku, ibu bapa Joyce memberi pendidikan tidak formal di rumah mereka.</p>
<p>Kata Joyce, dia banyak dipengaruhi pembelajaran zaman kecilnya.</p>
<p>“Saya bercerita kepada anak-anak bagaimana sukarnya kami ketika itu kerana tidak memiliki makanan atau buku mencukupi,” katanya.</p>
<p>Bagaimanapun, Joyce tidak menganggap dia bertanggungjawab membentuk Adora menjadi budak luar biasa.</p>
<p>“Kejayaan Adora kerana kesungguhan dan dedikasinya,” katanya.</p>
<p>Di tanya sama ada mereka adalah pasangan ibu bapa yang tegas mendidik anak-anak, Joyce berkata, keadaan sebenar adalah sebaliknya.</p>
<p>“Kami tidak mendesak Adora, sebaliknya dia sendiri memberikan apa yang terbaik untuk dirinya.</p>
<p>“Jika ada program keesokan hari, dia berjaga sehingga tengah malam untuk membuat persediaan dan sayalah yang mendesaknya berehat,” katanya.</p>
<p>Bagi Adora pula, dia tidak menganggap rutin hariannya sebagai beban.</p>
<p>“Ia sangat menyeronokkan,” katanya.</p>
<p>Selain membuat persediaan untuk mengajar, Adora gemar menonton berita di ketiga-tiga saluran televisyen, iaitu ABC, NBC dan CBS.</p>
<p>Ketika ada kelapangan, Adora menghabiskan masa beriadah, seperti bermain kasut roda, ski, memasak atau makan keju.</p>
<p>“Saya juga bermain sorok-sorok,” katanya.</p>
<p>Sebagai budak, adakah Adora mengalami sebarang kebimbangan?</p>
<p>“Ya, ekonomi dunia adalah satu daripada isu membimbangkan saya,” katanya.</p>
<p>Selain itu, katanya, masalah pemanasan global, kolera di Zimbabwe dan kebuluran dunia turut mencetuskan kekhuatiran.</p>
<p>“Namun, selalunya saya mengelak melayan kebimbangan itu kerana masa sepatutnya digunakan dengan aktiviti lebih berfaedah,” katanya. &#8211; Agensi</p>

Though your risk is partly determined by your genes, which means it’s beyond your control, there’s plenty you can do to protect yourself. In fact, changing your lifestyle could save your life. As we enter National Heart Month, learn which foods can keep you from becoming another statistic, and which supplements amount to little more than hype&#8230;</em><em>If you haven&#8217;t read up on heart health in a while, it might surprise you to learn that cholesterol limits have changed. A few decades ago, experts set target total cholesterol levels at anything under 240 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). Today, your doctor is likely to recommend that your total cholesterol levels be 200 mg/dL or lower. Some guidelines even set the bar at 180 mg/dL or lower.</em><em>Total cholesterol includes all forms of cholesterol – LDL and HDL. Recent studies have put LDL or &#8220;bad&#8221; cholesterol in the spotlight. Those at low risk for heart disease should strive for levels below 130 mg/dL; those at a higher risk should keep their total below 100 mg/dL.</p>
<p></em>With heart-health goals becoming stricter by the year, it&#8217;s no surprise that consumers are flocking to foods and supplements that promise to protect their cardiovascular system. Let’s review the basics of heart health, from diet to supplement.</p>
<p class="DataDiv"><strong>Feeding Your Ticker<br />
</strong>A recent study published in the <em>Annals of Internal Medicine</em> found a strong link between a Mediterranean-style diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, and legumes and improved levels of HDL or &#8220;good&#8221; cholesterol. Additional HDL-boosters include salmon and other omega-3 rich foods like flaxseed.</p>
<p>It’s wise to limit refined carbs and sugars, but avoid the strict fat-free diet regimen popularized in the 1970s and &#8217;80s. New research suggests that the types of fat you consume are more important than the quantities.</p>
<p><strong>Good vs. Bad Fats<br />
</strong>Monounsaturated fats found in olives, canola, avocado, nuts, and seeds are among the best sources of “good” fats – the ones that improve HDL levels without raising LDL cholesterol. However, loading up on polyunsaturated fats like corn, safflower and soybean oils can lower both your LDL and HDL levels.</p>
<p>Another item to avoid: trans fat. Formed when unsaturated oils are partially hydrogenated, these fats raise harmful LDL levels and lower beneficial HDL cholesterol. To steer clear of trans fats, limit processed foods, especially snacks and packaged bakery items containing hydrogenated oils.</p>
<p class="DataDiv"><strong>Heart Supplement #1: Psyllium<br />
</strong>Fiber is a hot topic in health circles these days. Although whole-grain foods are important, you can also get fiber in the form of psyllium, a supplement long promoted for improving bowel regularity. Psyllium increases the soluble fiber content in your diet, which helps keep your total cholesterol levels low. Other good sources of soluble fiber include fruits, vegetables, legumes, and oats.</p>
<p><strong>Heart Supplement #2: Policosanol<br />
</strong>A new study published in the <em>American Journal of Clinical Nutrition </em>used evidence from independent U.S. laboratories to conclude that the popular anti-cholesterol supplement policosanol is less effective than once thought. The study refuted health benefits cited by past reports, which came mainly from a single research group in Cuba, where policosanol is especially popular.</p>
<p><strong>Heart Supplement #3: Vitamin B<br />
</strong>Studies have found elevated levels of homocysteine in the blood of people with heart disease, which raises the possibility that lowering these levels can prevent heart trouble.</p>
<p>However, no study has proven this conclusively. In fact, the European Society of Cardiology recently stated that, although vitamin B supplements can dramatically lower homocysteine levels, they offer no heart protection. Their research also warned that folic acid and vitamin B pills – taken by some people to reduce homocysteine levels in the blood – may be harmful when combined.</p>
<p class="DataDiv"><strong>Heart Supplement #4: Garlic<br />
</strong>People have used garlic (<em>Allium sativum</em>) in heart tonics for centuries in many forms, from concentrated powder to liquid extract. Though it has no harmful effects, the social effects of the stinking rose (as it’s so lovingly referred to) can be unpleasant to say the least.</p>
<p>Several scientific studies suggest that garlic supplements may produce a moderate, short-term reduction in total cholesterol of 4 to 12%, including decreases in triglycerides and LDL cholesterol. However, garlic alone is probably insufficient to treat people with significantly elevated cholesterol levels, since it has not been shown to improve HDL cholesterol.</p>
<p>One drawback of garlic is its tendency to &#8220;thin&#8221; the blood. To avoid bleeding problems, never take it prior to or immediately after surgery, near giving birth, in combination with blood-thinning medications like aspirin or warfarin, or with high-dose vitamin E or ginkgo biloba. Another caveat: Garlic preparations may decrease the effectiveness of birth control drugs.</p>
<p>Consult your doctor before taking any supplements.</p>
<p class="DataDiv"><strong>Heart Supplement #5: CoQ10<br />
</strong>Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10 for short) is a vitamin-like substance found in many foods. Our bodies produce it, too, particularly in muscle cells of the heart, though production decreases with age. Studies suggest it aids in the treatment of congestive heart failure.</p>
<p>Researchers have found that taking some cholesterol and blood pressure drugs, including statins and beta-blockers, disturb the body’s production of CoQ10. However, most health organizations have taken no position on the use of CoQ10 supplements.</p>
<p><strong>Five Heart-Boosting Foods<br />
</strong>Next time you’re at the supermarket, point your cart toward these real-life “miracle&#8221; heart foods.</p>
<ol>
<li class="DataLI"><strong>Beans: </strong>Shown to help lower both cholesterol and blood pressure levels.</li>
<li class="DataLI"><strong>Fish: </strong>May help decrease inflammation and prevent irregular heartbeats and blood clots.</li>
<li class="DataLI"><strong>Nuts: </strong>Can help reduce LDL cholesterol levels.</li>
<li class="DataLI"><strong>Oats: </strong>Can help lower total cholesterol, especially LDL levels.</li>
<li class="DataLI"><strong>Olive Oil: </strong>May help stave off atherosclerosis (hardened arteries), protect against free radicals and prevent inflammation.</li>

  malu pada diri sayasendiri, dan saya ingin mohon maaf kepadamu.&#8221;        <br />

   &#8221;Kenapa?&#8221; tanya si tukang air, &#8220;Kenapa kamu merasa malu?&#8221;              <br />
                                                                          <br />
   &#8221;Saya hanya mampu, selama dua tahun ini, membawa setengahjumlah air    <br />
  dari yang seharusnya dapat saya bawa                                    <br />
  kerana adanya retakan pada sisi saya telah membuat air yang              <br />
  saya bawa bocor sepanjang jalan menuju rumah majikan kita.              <br />
  Kerana cacatku itu, sayatelah membuatmu rugi.&#8221; kata tempayan itu.        <br />

  Si tukang air merasa kasihan pada si tempayan retak, dan dalambelas      <br />
  kasihannya, ia berkata,                                                  <br />

  &#8221;Jika kita kembali ke rumah majikan besok, aku                          <br />
  ingin kamu memerhatikan bunga-bunga indah di sepanjang                  <br />
  jalan.&#8221;                                                                  <br />

   Benar, ketika mereka naik ke bukit, si tempayan retak memerhatikandan  <br />
  baru menyedari bahwa ada bunga-bunga indah di sepanjang sisi jalan, dan  <br />
  itu membuatnya sedikit terhibur. Namun pada akhir perjalanan, ia        <br />
  kembali sedih kerana separuh air yang dibawanya telah bocor, dan        <br />
  kembali tempayan retak itu meminta maaf pada si tukang air atas          <br />
  kegagalannya.                                                            <br />

   Si tukang air berkata kepada tempayan itu,                              <br />
                                                                          <br />
  &#8221;Apakah kamu memerhatikan adanya bunga-bunga di sepanjang jalan si      <br />
  sisimu tapi tidak ada bunga di sepanjang jalan di sisi tempayan yang    <br />
  lain yang tidak retak itu. Itu kerana aku selalu  menyedari akan        <br />
  cacatmu dan aku memanfaatkannya. Aku telah menanam benih-benih bunga di  <br />
  sepanjang jalan di sisimu, dan setiap hari jika kita berjalan pulang    <br />
  dari mata air, kamu mengairi benih-benihitu. Selama dua tahun ini aku    <br />
  telah dapat memetik                                                      <br />
  bunga-bungaindah itu untuk menghias meja majikan kita.                  <br />
  Tanpa kamu sebagaimana kamu ada, majikan kita tak akan                  <br />

   Setiap dari kita memiliki cacat dan kekurangan kita sendiri. Kita      <br />

  kekurangan kita untuk menghias-Nya. Di mata Tuhanyang bijaksana, tak    <br />
  ada yang terbuang percuma.Jangan takut akan kekurangan kita. Kenalilah  <br />
